OTHER IMPORTANT TRIP INFO:

WHY HAVE WE CHOSEN APRIL FOR THIS ADVENTURE? The best time to visit Botswana is April to October when the days are sunny and temperatures mild.

ACTIVITY RATING and TRIP DIFFICULTY: Easy to Moderate.

Where do we meet on Day #2)? We meet in Livingstone, Zambia on Day #2 (April 5, 2013) at the airport and travel together as a group to our camp to begin our safari adventure. A ROAM Associate and our Travel Beyond Guide will meet travelers at the airport.

Where does the trip conclude? This trip concludes in Maun, Botswana on Day #10 (April 13, 2013). We return to the airport in Maun, Botswana as a group to check-in for return flights home.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS International airfare from your home to Livingstone, Zambia and from Maun, Botswana is NOT included in the cost of the trip package. Travelers need to fly to Livingstone, Zambia arriving on April 5 where we meet as a group to begin our safari adventure. Travelers depart from Maun, Botswana airport on April 13 to return home. Our Destination specialist partner, Travel Beyond, can book your international flight on request.

PASSPORT AND VISAS.
Citizens of the United States must possess a valid U.S. passport for travel to South Africa, Botswana, Zambia. It must be valid for 6 months beyond your intended stay in Africa and have 2-4 completely empty pages facing each other.

U.S. citizens do not need to obtain a visa in advance for travel to Botswana or Zambia. Visas are issued upon entry into both countries.

If you do not have a passport, APPLY NOW! Please do not wait until the last minute. You should always carry 2 extra passport photographs with you, in case of emergency (if your passport/visa is lost or stolen).

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS, PHYSICAL CONDITION & HEALTH INSURANCE - Vaccinations:
There are no mandatory immunizations required for US residents visiting South Africa, Botswana, Zambia. However, please consult with your personal physician, local health department, travel clinic, or immunization center about any vaccinations you may need to update (tetanus, typhoid, polio, Hepatitis A & B), or others that may be personally recommended for you based on your age, health, and past vaccination history. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.

Your Physical Condition: Although this safari is rated as easy to moderate in general, travelers should be in good physical health.

Health Insurance: You MUST have your own health insurance, and have no physical problems or conditions that would be adversely affected by riding in 4x4 vehicles on rough, bumpy roads!

Water: We recommend that you drink ONLY bottled water while on safari. Bottled water is always available in our vehicles and at nightly accommodations.

ELECTRICITY. We strongly suggest you leave all electrical appliances (hair dryers, etc.) at home except those that operate with batteries (your cameras). All camera batteries can be recharged at lodges, camps and in our vehicles daily.

WATER AND FOOD If the tap water in our lodges/camps/hotels is not safe to drink, there is a thermos or a carafe of drinking water in your room. Or, we are supplied with bottled, boiled, or filtered water. Bottled water is available to us during the daytime on safari. It is important to take the advice of our guides whenever you are unsure about the safety of water. During safari, all food is very well prepared and safe to eat.

CURRENCY, CREDIT CARDS, GRATUITIES Credit cards (Visa, MC) are accepted throughout Botswana and South Africa, but American Express and Diners Club are often not accepted in Botswana. You should bring $600-$800 minimum U.S. cash, in small bills ($1s, $5s, $10s, and $20s). Make sure the money you bring is in NEW bills (year 2000 issue or later), not worn or torn bills. The currency of Botswana is the Pula (BWP). You usually get the best money exchange rate at the airport upon arrival, and at a bank. Changing money in the hotels does not yield as good a rate. Botswana banks will only accept US Dollars, Pound Sterling, Euro and South African Rand cash. Therefore, any cash payments to camps for curios, or gratuities to guides or staff, need to be in one of these currencies. Travellers' cheques in any of the above currencies are also acceptable. Foreign exchange and ATM facilities are limited on safari. So it is best to bring enough money with you for the duration of your trip (in US Dollars, Euros, or Pound Sterling) and exchange it for local currency at banks or Forex bureaus in large towns.

For Tips/Gratuities, as noted above ALL tips/gratuities are included in the trip price. You are welcome to offer an additional gratuity to our guides, porters and lodge staff; however, this is not required.

Returning U.S. residents are allowed to bring back $800 worth of merchandise, duty free.
