U.S. citizens MUST obtain a visa in advance for travel to India. Please contact us for visa details and how to easily obtain your visa.

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS, PHYSICAL CONDITION & HEALTH INSURANCE - Vaccinations - There are no mandatory immunizations required for US residents visiting India. However, Hep A & B are recommended along with Typhoid, Meningitis and Polio. Please consult with your personal physician, local health department, travel clinic, or immunization center about any vaccinations you may need to update (tetanus, typhoid, polio, Hepatitis A & B), or others that may be personally recommended for you based on your age, health, and past vaccination history. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.

HEALTH - Going to India, you have to adapt to a new climate and new food. Don't stress yourself too much at the beginning of your journey to allow your body to acclimatize to the country. For example, take a day of rest upon arrival, at least on your first visit. Many travellers get ill for wanting to do too much in too little time. Be careful with spicy food if it is not your daily diet. Diarrhoea is common, and can have many different causes. Bring a standard first-aid kit, plus extra over-the-counter medicine for diarrhea and stomach upset. A rehydration kit can also be helpful. At the least, remember the salt/sugar/water ratio for oral rehydration: 1 tsp salt, 8 tsp sugar, for 1 litre of water. Most Indians will happily share their own advice for treatment of illnesses and other problems. Malaria is endemic throughout India. CDC states that risk exists in all areas, including the cities of Delhi and Mumbai, and at altitudes of less than 2000 metres in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, Kashmir, and Sikkim; however, the risk of infection is considered low in Delhi and northern India. Get expert advice on malaria preventatives, and take adequate precautions to prevent mosquito bites. Use a mosquito repellent when going outside (particularly during the evenings) A local mosquito repellent used by Indians is Odomos and is available at most stores.

Your Physical Condition: Although this adventure is rated as easy to moderate in general, travelers should be in good physical health.

Health Insurance: You MUST have your own health insurance, and have no physical problems or conditions that would be adversely affected by participating in any of our scheduled activities!

Water: We recommend that you drink ONLY bottled water. Bottled water is always available in our vehicles and at nightly accommodations.

ELECTRICITY Voltage: Electricity in India is 220V/50Hz

WATER AND FOOD If the tap water in our hotels/camp is not safe to drink, there is a thermos or a carafe of drinking water in your room. Or, we are supplied with bottled, boiled, or filtered water. Bottled water is available to us during the daytime. It is important to take the advice of our guides whenever you are unsure about the safety of water. All food is very well prepared and safe to eat.

CURRENCY, CREDIT CARDS, GRATUITIES
ATM machines can be found in most of the towns and cities in India. Most will accept Visa, MasterCard, Cirrus, Maestro and Plus. It is advisable to also bring cash or travellers cheques in case of power failures or if you are travelling to more remote areas. You are usually required to show your passport when changing currency or travellers cheques. Banks will charge international transactions, but you can reduce charges by making larger transactions less often. Always check in advance whether your card can access banking networks in India and ask for details of charges. Keep emergency lost-and-stolen numbers for your credit cards in a safe place, separate from your cards, and report any loss or theft immediately. US dollars, UK pounds and Euros are easy to change throughout India. A few banks will also accept Australian, New Zealand and Canadian dollars, and Swiss Francs. Check your money carefully to ensure that there are no dirty or ripped notes as some shops will not accept these as payment. If you do get ripped notes you can change them to new bills at branches of the Reserve Bank of India in major cities. It is advisable to keep a stock of smaller notes as some shop owners may claim not have any change and this is also easier when bartering with stall owners and street sellers. Many shops, upmarket restaurants and hotels will now accept credit cards, and you can also use them to pay for flights and train tickets. However, be wary of scams. Cash advances on major credit cards are also possible at some banks without ATMs. MasterCard and Visa are the most widely accepted cards; for details about whether you can access home accounts in India, inquire at your bank before leaving. All major brands are accepted in India, but some banks may only accept cheques from Amex and Thomas Cook. Pounds sterling and US dollars are the safest currencies, especially in smaller towns. Charges for changing travellers cheques vary from place to place and bank to bank. Always keep a supply of cash in case you lose your travellers cheques, and keep a record of the cheques’ serial numbers separate from your cheques, along with the proof-of-purchase slips, encashment vouchers and photocopied passport details. If you lose your cheques, contact the Amex or Thomas Cook office in Delhi.

For Tips/Gratuities, as noted above ALL tips/gratuities are included in the trip price. You are welcome to offer an additional gratuity to our guides, porters and lodge staff; however, this is not required.

Returning U.S. residents are allowed to bring back $800 worth of merchandise, duty free.
