At 43 years of age, ROAM founder and owner Christy Destremau is also the founder and current President of Off the Beaten Path, LLC (website named: France Off the Beaten Path - click to visit OTBP website). Christy loves travelling to exotic destinations and learning about cultures that differ from her traditional western lifestyle. Her husband however isn't always interested in her chosen destinations or available to accompany her when she plans a trip. And sometimes, like many women, Christy just needs time away from hubby, kids, dogs, the house and all of the responsibilities that accompany family life to do something invigorating for herself!

While she doesn't mind traveling alone nomatter how well she does or doesn't know a destination, Christy prefers the comfortable and safe environment that comes with travelling in a small group of like minded, active women, and welcomes the opportunity to travel with women's groups whenever possible. Early on in her travels Christy found it challenging to find and was unsuccessful at finding women only trips to many of her "bucket list destinations" --i.e. African countries like Zimbabwe, Uganda, Rwanda, Namibia and others, as well as to South East Asia and India-- let alone trips that were active and filled with unforgettable excursions. She also initially turned to her friends, as potential travel buddies, as a way of getting to some of her preferred destinations, but she quickly learned that most of them were either unavailable or weren't in a position to allocate resources to travel. It was at this point in her life that Christy knew she needed to make a change, fill that "void" in the women's travel market, and create the opportunity for active women around the world to come together to travel to exotic "bucket list" destinations in an active, safe and fun environment.

ROAM is a women's adventure travel company specializing in 10-17 day, safaris and active trips for women of all ages to Africa, India and South East Asia. ALL, yes ALL of our trips are "active" adventures --rated easy to moderate because they all involve international travel! You don't need to be an olympic athlete to participate and enjoy our adventures, but you will want to be in good health. Our trips require your participation! On our Africa adventures, you'll need to be prepared, for example, to care for your elephant before or after your elephant back game (wildlife) viewing safari. You'll need to be able to hike for up to 2-4 hours on Gorilla trekking days in Rwanda, and in southern Africa, you'll need to be able to walk for short periods of time during our optional game viewing walks and bush walks. At the end of each day, you'll return to our luxury camps/lodges/hotels to relax, enjoy leisure time, swim and top off each day with a gourmet African dinner prepared by our private Chefs! In India, Vietnam and Cambodia, you'll also want to be in good health, and prepared to participate in our daily activities, some of which include active walks to cultural sites, through scenic villages and countryside, cycling on a cultural bike through rice paddy covered fields between villages in Vietnam (or opt for a electric cyclo), camel back riding in India, rickshaw rides in India and Vietnam and cooking classes in India, Vietnam and Cambodia.
